Welcome to Fallout Roleplay. This is a forum that embraces the freeform nature of how RP should be. Due to this, a lot of the information on this site is built around members. It isn't strict and doesn't contains a million guidelines on what can and cannot be done. It only makes it so that staff understands what you are trying to create and leaves the rest up to you. With that said, let's cover the basics of Fallout Roleplay
World History : The world is set 500 years after civilization has fallen. The world was destroyed through nuclear warfare and the world has fallen into a recovery state. There is radiation, yes, but it isn't entirely the end of the world. The bombs, basically, were the massive reset button for the world.
The setting for the landscape is the Southern United States, consisting of the following states: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina. Going beyond the mountains towards the west is suicide, as the radiation is much higher and will kill anyone that chooses to cross through. Even the most radiated would melt moving beyond the mountains.
Because it is based after a nuclear holocaust, the world does not appear the same way it once did. It contains some resemblance to the past, but there is no information from the past other than the ruins that were left behind. No computers, no books, nothing survived. If it wasn't destroyed in the initial blast, it was destroyed by the flames, or from damage from the years of disrepair.
Economy : The economy after the world ended plummeted. All form of paper money destroyed, and all electronic funds wiped. Because the world is having to start anew, the world found a new currency. Rocks infused with radiation, or RadRocks. Their glow determines their value. Because they aren't light, RadRocks have been divided into sequential value to prevent any character from being weighted down by the weight of them.
Green = 1
Yellow = 50
Red = 100
Blue = 500
White = 1,000
Purple = 10,000
Rainbow = 100,000
Weapons and Items : Whether it be a handgun or a machine gun, all things cost 1000 RadRocks. This is a base price. This is to help simplify how much things cost and may change as new things are created.
Augments and Mods : Everything can be modified as long as it makes sense and can be explained. If you want your gun to have a scope on it, then you can do that. It will cost extra, though, as things in this world are not free.
There are two types of modification: Minor and Major. Minor modification is similar to adding a cross hair, or putting a scope on a weapon. This is just a simple, small change that improves the item mildly. Major things, whether it be adding a blade to your weapon, or physically altering it to perform an additional function, will cost a bit more. Another type of modification is fusion. Say you want to make a gunblade, since it is the easiest example that comes to mind. You would have to pay the fusion cost to create it. The prices go as follows:
Minor: 250 RadRocks
Major: 750 RadRocks
Fusion: 1500 RadRocks
So, lets give a few examples to help explain. Let's say you have a rifle and you decide later you want to add a scope to it. All you have to do is go purchase the scope and write into your item's description the addition that you have made. You pay 250 RadRocks for it and you're done. Same applies to Major modifications.
Now, an example of fusing an item. Let's go back to the gunblade. You have a sword, and you have a gun. You suddenly decide to go through with it and pay to have your items fused. In order for you to be able to use the fused item, you must have at least one (1) level in each talent/ability required to use it. In this case, You'd need 1 in Swords and 1 in Rifle/Handgun, whichever gun you are decided to attach to the sword. Once the item is fused, you are free to use it as you wish.
Plot and You : To again emphasize the freedom granted to the members of the site, I'll reiterate. You are free to do as you wish in this forum, as long as there is no rule breaking. Staff will not intervene. Staff is merely here to help moderate RP and help facilitate it whenever we decide to do site plots. If you want to do a plot where a guy seeks to destroy an entire faction, you are free to do it. We here at Fallout Roleplay encourage any type of plot that interests you. Just make sure that your plot corresponds to the world, so that it works with it.
Again, Staff will not ever intervene with your RP unless you are breaking a rule. We only ask that you don't overpower yourself. You are given the creative room to do certain things, but please respect the fact that you are not all powerful all the time.
Staff will be doing what they can to host events, but this will all depend on how many members we have, as well as how many staff members we have. We hope to do multiple plots and events throughout the site, but we need people to do this. Not just staff, but members to work with.
Random Encounters : Random Encounters, or REs, are things that are like mini-events. They are just mild plots that staff can throw into your threads if you request them. Say, for example, your thread needs a bit of livening up. You PM a Staff Member and they'll NPC whatever it is they choose to introduce into your thread. If you decide that you don't want to have REs thrown into your thread, merely put [NRE] in the title of your thread or in the beginning post. This will notify staff not to introduce one into your thread.
Factions : Factions are groups that have a similar goal in mind. To help members, we have created multiple factions and thrown them throughout the world. If you are interested in joining them, go right on ahead. If you don't want to join them, that's fine too. Don't join one just because its empty, join one because its what you might find interesting to do.
At this time, all Factions are being NPCed by staff until members assume the roles of leader for those factions, as well as all members in the ranks below it. This is to help assume the image that it isn't merely a one-man army against another. If you want to rise the ranks and become the new leader, you need only RP it out and assume power that way.
That seems to cover the majority of things that we offer here on Fallout Roleplay. We here on staff hope to see you RPing here soon. If you have any questions, there is a support board that you may create a thread in and ask any question that were not answered here.
